Bifrost Preschool
Mölndal, just outside Gothenburg, is now home to one of the largest preschools in the Nordic region, with ten departments and plenty of space for play. Nature-inspired choices for colours and furniture have given users of the preschool freedom to set their own stamp on the learning environments.
Accessibility and meeting places
Language forms the basis for all learning at Bifrost Preschool. The focus is on the children’s means to express themselves, both verbally and aesthetically. The environments have also been designed to be both appealing and accessible to children; for example, they should be able to reach various items and materials for themselves.
Both the indoor and outdoor settings are divided into zones to create natural meeting places. This enables the children to awaken creativity, explore and discover a variety of contexts. The yard area is divided into two safe zones, as well as a wild and nature zone for more adventurous activities.
Nature as inspiration
The tranquil and harmonious premises are inspired by the neighbouring forest, as reflected in the natural choices in terms of colours and furniture. The purpose of the neutral backdrop was to allow children and staff to set their own stamp on the spaces. Toys, books and drawings will bring character to the premises.
The building has been designed by architectural firm Liljewall, while the interiors have been a collaborative process involving the City of Mölndal, the preschool and Input interior.
